My 4-month-old baby was admitted to Sunway Medical Centre due to severe nasal congestion and chest tightness caused by flu, which affected her breathing and feeding. We first saw Dr. Mellisa at the Emergency Department — she was extremely kind, clear, and professional. She explained our baby’s condition thoroughly and recommended admission, which we truly appreciated. However, our experience with the attending consultant Dr.Khoo (Peads) was deeply disappointing. We had initially requested other doctors, but they were on leave, and this doctor was assigned to us. From Day 1 to Day 3, he showed minimal involvement. He used a stethoscope twice while standing at a distance and never physically examined our baby (no nose, throat, or proper chest check). On Day 2, he didn’t even check her before making treatment decisions. Only after my husband questioned it did he briefly use the stethoscope. On Day 3, when we requested a change of doctor due to our concerns, he discharged our baby stating she was fine — even though she was still unwell, with obvious congested sounds. It felt like the discharge was out of convenience, not based on recovery. As a parent, I felt helpless and frustrated. This kind of treatment is unacceptable for a 4-month-old child. Babies cannot speak or express discomfort — they need doctors who take their role seriously and examine them thoroughly. I hope the hospital reviews this matter and ensures no other child receives such dismissive care.

Brought my niece here for the first time. I have to say that I’m very impressed with their services. Staffs at the children’s emergency were very polite and helpful! Dr Daniel and the nurses were very good at handling my niece. It made my anxious visit much more pleasant. I think Sunway Medical Centre will be my hospital of choice in the future. Kudos to all the staffs for their hard work!
