About Doctor
Prof. Emeritus Datin Dr Lucy Lum Chai See is a highly respected Paediatric Intensivist with deep experience and trail-blazing contributions in Malaysia. She joined the Department of Paediatrics at University of Malaya in 1990 and went on to lead the development of paediatric acute and critical care services, even under resource constraints. She completed fellowship training in paediatric intensive care at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, where she gained expertise in mechanical ventilation and advanced critical care techniques. She was the first Malaysian to pass the European Diploma in Paediatric Intensive Care. Prof. Lum was instrumental in setting up and expanding Malaysia’s paediatric intensive care infrastructure: she helped pioneer PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support) training across many states, led efforts to define the clinical response to major outbreaks (e.g. EV71), and was key in establishing and improving UMMC’s Paediatric ICU. Her work has also had strong regional and international impact via collaborations with the WHO and other countries, especially in dengue clinical management and training. She continues to be actively involved in bedside clinical care, mentoring, and improving outcomes for critically ill children. Her combination of long clinical service, overseas advanced fellowship training, leadership in outbreak response, and commitment to training and guideline development make her a trusted and compassionate authority in paediatric critical care.
