I recently visited Dr. Puravi (ENT Specialist at SJMC) on 27th Oct ,after being referred for a cyst and recurring symptoms of lightheadedness. Unfortunately, the consultation left me disappointed and more anxious than before I walked in. From the beginning, he appeared rushed and almost irritated that I was there. When I entered the room, he was still updating another patient’s information while asking me why I came. As I was explaining my symptoms, he continued typing with his back partly turned toward me, making the interaction feel very dismissive and impersonal. Although he reassured me that my condition was nothing serious, his tone and choice of words made me feel as though I was at fault for experiencing these symptoms. When he asked whether my family had similar issues and I replied that I wasn’t sure, he implied I should have already known — even though that’s exactly why I was seeing a specialist: to understand what is happening with my health. After a brief examination of my ear and throat, he asked whether I wanted to proceed with further investigations. Naturally, I asked for his professional opinion. His response was, “Well, I’ve only spoken to you for 10 minutes and I can already tell you want to check all,” which came across as judgmental rather than supportive. It made me wonder if he thought my concerns were not valid or worth his time. The consultation ended abruptly when I asked if that was all, and he simply replied “Yes,” with no further guidance, reassurance, or explanation of what to look out for next. Healthcare should be rooted in empathy, clear communication, and patient-centered care. A specialist may be well-known or highly recommended, but attitude matters. This experience left me feeling brushed off and worse than before. I will not be returning, and I hope future patients are treated with more understanding and care.
