I am very sorry to have to complain about my experience yesterday, 25/06/2023, at the A&E department of Sunway Medical Centre. It was not a good experience. I have always been treated and followed up at Sunway Medical Centre, seeing several doctors, and I have always trusted Sunway Medical Centre's treatments and services to be reliable. On 23/06/2023, we had a routine liver test at BP Lab. The next day, 24/06/2023, the report showed very high ALT of 442 and AST of 1069. I immediately called to book a check-up with Dr. Chua at Sunway Medical Centre. Unexpectedly, I started having a fever that afternoon, and by evening, it reached 38.5 degrees Celsius. The next morning, I still had a fever of 37.2 degrees Celsius on an empty stomach. On 25/06/2023, at 8:30 AM, we arrived at Sunway Medical Centre. We first tried to register for Dr. Chua's clinic. After waiting for half an hour, the doctor said the appointments were full for the day and recommended we see another on-call doctor. We went to the registration counter on the first floor, and the nurse called the clinic. After waiting for another half an hour, the doctor did not respond. We couldn't wait any longer; the patient had not eaten and had waited for almost an hour and a half without seeing any doctor. We chose to go on an empty stomach because we expected to have blood tests done. Under duress, we went to the emergency department. After registering, we waited for an hour and saw Dr. Yie Txxk Lxxxg in Room 2. The doctor asked us to do blood tests for COVID, Dengue, and a series of other tests. We understood and communicated with the doctor. In February, my AST was 78 / ALT 71 during a physical examination. In April, another blood test showed AST 40 / ALT 72 (this was done at the general clinic, and the doctor advised us to take Livolin three times a day for three months, then retest). The report from 23/06/2023 showed significantly elevated indices, and we told Dr. Yie everything. Two and a half hours later, the reports came back: COVID positive, AST 338 / ALT 312. We asked many questions about why the liver enzymes were so high and the causes. The doctor's answers were evasive, and their eyes kept avoiding mine, as if trying to hide something. The doctor only focused on whether we wanted to be admitted for COVID-19 or not. Despite our many unanswered questions, we decided to admit the hospital to investigate the high liver enzymes. The doctor said the report showed a significant drop in indices compared to previous tests. However, the doctor's reaction was dismissive, as if it were normal, even though the indices were still elevated. The doctor said it was nothing! This made me even more confused! The emergency doctor was solely focused on our admission due to COVID-19, while our concern was the extremely high liver enzymes that we wanted to investigate thoroughly. We decided to admit the hospital for a thorough check. We submitted the documents to the insurance company and waited for three hours for approval before arranging admission. The key point is that from our arrival at 8:30 AM until seeing the emergency doctor, we received no treatment. The doctor did not advise any medication or ask if we needed any antipyretics. Thus, my fever, which was 37.2 degrees Celsius in the morning, rose to 38.2 degrees Celsius by the evening – a high fever again! There are many other details, many speechless attitudes, and the indifference of the doctors and nurses. We received no treatment. There are too many details, and each small detail made me feel helpless. It's too long a story! I only felt that I was subjected to neglect and heartless treatment throughout the day! After deciding to admit the hospital, a respiratory doctor, Dr. Lim, was assigned to see us. We repeated our concerns about the liver enzymes and asked for the doctor's opinion. The doctor also could not provide any professional response, only suggesting we stay in the hospital for detailed examination. On 26/06/2023, the morning blood test report showed AST 167 / ALT 204, indicating a drop in indices. The doctor informed us that due to COVID, other hepatology doctors would not see us. They advised us to go home and return for a respiratory follow-up in a week. On the follow-up day, if the liver enzyme levels returned to normal, Dr. Lim would not refer us to a hepatology specialist. In other words, no doctor could explain why the AST and ALT indices were so high initially. Neither doctor paid serious attention to the liver enzyme issue. They concluded our treatment like this. We were concerned about the high liver enzymes but received no explanation. All doctors only cared about the COVID issue. This truly left me feeling very disappointed and helpless!
