Associate Professor Dr Jessie Anne de Bruyne is a distinguished paediatric respiratory specialist with deep roots in both clinical service and academic medicine. She graduated with her MBChB from the University of Sheffield Medical School (UK), earning Distinction in Surgery, and subsequently obtained her MRCP (UK) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh). Dr de Bruyne began her academic career at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Malaya in 1991, combining teaching, research, and clinical practice at the University Malaya Medical Centre. Over the years she has become a leading voice in childhood respiratory medicine, especially in the areas of asthma epidemiology, paediatric respiratory infections, and long-term respiratory care. She holds leadership roles in many professional societies and committees, e.g. Honorary Treasurer of the Malaysian Thoracic Society, member of Asia Pacific associations in paediatric allergy and respiratory medicine, and hands-on involvement in national programmes such as the HELP (Home Equipment Loan Programme) for children.
