Dr. Mary Suma Cardosa is a pioneering Consultant Pain Management Specialist in Malaysia, recognized for her extensive contributions to pain medicine. She established the first Acute Pain Service and multidisciplinary pain clinic within the Ministry of Health, and was instrumental in initiatives like 'Pain as the 5th Vital Sign' and 'Pain Free Hospital'. Her expertise lies in a multidisciplinary approach, integrating advanced procedures, medications, and modern treatments, including CBT pain management programs. Dr. Cardosa has held significant leadership roles, including the first female President of the Malaysian Medical Association and a long-standing tenure as President of the Malaysian Association for the Study of Pain, now serving as an Advisor. She is also a Council member of the International Association for the Study of Pain and President-Elect, actively involved in developing national practice guidelines and pain education across Southeast Asia.
