Professor Emeritus Dr Liam Chong Kin

Professor Emeritus Dr Liam Chong Kin is one of Malaysia’s most eminent specialists in respiratory medicine, with particular expertise in lung cancer, asthma, COPD, and other chronic lung diseases. He earned his MBBS from Universiti Malaya and holds prestigious fellowships including FRCP (London), MRCP (UK), FCCP (USA), and FAMM, reflecting international recognition of his clinical and academic standing. Over many years, he has held central leadership roles: he served four terms as President of the Malaysian Thoracic Society and has been deeply involved with the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), continuing to influence research and policy through these bodies. Dr Liam has a very strong research track record, having published nearly 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and delivered over 300 presentations at regional and international scientific meetings. His research interests include molecular genotyping, novel targeted therapies and immunotherapy for lung cancer, new treatments for asthma and COPD, and genetic polymorphisms in respiratory disease.
