Dr Thangesweran A/L Ayakannu

Dr. Thangesweran A/L Ayakannu is a highly skilled Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, and Gynae-Oncologist specializing in Robotic Surgery at Sunway Medical Centre. He has over 35 years of experience. He received his MBBS from the University of the West Indies (Trinidad & Tobago) in 2001 and furthered his training in the UK, obtaining a PhD in Gynaecology Oncology from the University of Leicester and MRCOG from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. He has extensive experience in robotic-assisted surgery for both benign and malignant gynaecological conditions, with a particular focus on high BMI patients. Dr. Thangesweran is known for pioneering the robotic surgery service in Gynaecology & Gynaecology Oncology, he performed the first robotic total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for endometrial cancer patients in 2020 at Liverpool Women's Hospital. He's also been recognized with awards such as the "Being Brilliant Award" in 2020 and the Sir William Gilliatt Award for best oral presentation at the RCOG World Congress.
