I am not sure if the management will see this or not but I hope someone does and it makes a change. Let me tell you my story from the 14th Nov 2022 to 15th Nov 2022 in Columbia Asia for my 4 year old son. First we see the doctor on 14th, everything was great, waiting times short, service was great, ambience cosy, my son loved it. I was excited to see he was comfortable in the hospital environment. Doctor said he will have to go for CT scan the next day. Uh oh, he doesn't like needles, he will go crazy, is there an alternative? Fortunately doctor said oh it's fine it'll be quick. He just needs to fast, we will give him a cup of water and he will take a nap and we can go for the scan. OH MY GOD, that sounded great. And so we fasted my son. Next morning, the appointment was set for 8am. Everything was going well still, registration, the greetings and all. I was glad I get to spend my money's worth for this kind of service. Then everything went downhill... We were placed in an emergency treatment room. Then a nurse came in and was preparing needles. I asked politely, 'Oh I thought there wouldn't be any needles?' then she said, oh doctor prompted a blood check and we need access just in case anything happens. Okay, fair enough. I accepted. I complied. Once my son saw the needles he started shouting. If only they had drugs to make him drink and make him sleep. Oh wait, 'Nurse, can't you just make him sleep and then place the needle and do the scan?' Nurse responded, 'Oh we don't do that, we place it first, then put him to sleep' Well, okay, I still accepted and complied. They placed the needle (a huge struggle) then put him to sleep (with the water). They obtained his blood sample. Cool, we're almost done, just the scan and we can go. But, we had to wait almost 2 hours for the scan. My son was fast asleep already. When I asked, they said we have to wait for blood results first. Well, then why did you put him to sleep already? By the time they wanted to CT scan, my son jumped and woke up. It made sense, he was asleep for 2 hours already for nothing. And so I asked, can't you just give him the water again? 'No, cause we already gave and scared of overdose'. Well sh*t, at least they have the IV access. My son gained all his energy back and started struggling again, he almost tore the IV access from his hand. The port was leaking, blood was spilling, chaos ensued, my child traumatised. The pediatrician stepped in and gave the full dose of sedative forcefully. The port and syringe was full of my son's blood, it was a mess. Everything else afterwards was okay to me. My son was groggy, nurse helped remove the port, the report was done, payment was smooth. But my questions still remain. 1. Why did they put my son to sleep if we still had to wait for the blood results first, then not being able to utilise sedation time? 2. Why didn't they sedate before all traumatic incidents. Me and my wife both animal doctors shut our mouths of the whole flow of procedures out of respect. Either way, they could have avoided AT LEAST 1 traumatic episode (CT scan or emergency treatment room). Or better yet, both. Now we go home with a report and another child severely terrified of the hospital. A sorted out plan could have been better. A miscommunication perhaps, or just an unthought out plan. *Appreciation to all staffs, Dr Rosliza, nurses, and the pediatrician. Thank you.
