He also spearheaded the establishment of a dedicated Urological Department at Alor Setar Hospital, transforming it into a premier tertiary care and training center. His research on benign prostate disease earned him the prestigious Pfizer Book Award in 2008.

      I recently underwent surgery performed by Dr. Balan at the Urology Clinic, PHKL and the procedure was carried out with great success. The hospital conditions were outstanding — the patient ward, the rooms, and the healthcare staff who continuously provided attentive and proper care were all excellent. I felt completely at home throughout my stay and recovered very quickly. My sincere thanks to Dr. Balan and the entire hospital team for their exceptional care and professionalism.
