Professor Ina Ismiarti is a distinguished Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist with special expertise in paediatric anaesthesia and critical care. She began her medical education at the University of Dundee in Scotland (MBChB), followed by postgraduate specialization with a Master in Anaesthesiology from the University of Malaya. She further bolstered her skills with fellowship training in paediatric anaesthesia at KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Singapore, and in paediatric liver transplantation at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Her passion for education led her to complete a Master in Medical Education with distinction. Prof. Ina is a leading advocate for patient safety, advanced airway management, sustainable anaesthesia practices, and perioperative patient blood management. Her leadership roles are numerous: she has served as President of major anaesthesiology societies in Malaysia (including the Malaysian College of Anaesthesiologists, the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists, and the Malaysian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists), is President-Elect of the Asian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists, and contributes at the international level via the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she headed the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at UMMC, demonstrating both clinical excellence and organizational leadership. She is also heavily involved in innovation and education: her work has led to awards for medical-education innovation, two patents and a copyright in anaesthesia & critical care, and she currently serves as Chief Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Anaesthesiology.
