My mum is a CKD Stage 5 patient with diabetic and heart failure. She was advised by her first nephrologist in Kuching to start dialysis immediately in Aug 2024. However, I brought her over to KL to seek for second opinion from Dr Fong in Sep 2024. He first educated us with mums condition and dialysis process. He then prepped her to have a fistula surgery performed so that when in need of a dialysis, she has a port ready for it. At first, mum was really discouraged and had no appetite with the thought of doing dialysis. However fast forward today, under Dr Fong’s care, mum has been doing great and does not need dialysis for now. Major change made by Dr Fong in her lifestyle was mainly on her medications and diet with doable exercises for her mobility. She started off with 16 tablets daily from her first nephrologist in Kuching. Today, mum only needs to consume 8 tablets daily and 2 supplements! Dr Fong has been very kind and patience with mum. His encouragement gave her the strength to stay positive which made each visit less stressful and uplifting for her. I am truly grateful for the kindness and professionalism he has shown since day 1. He responded to all my queries and worries via WhatsApp and assured me he will give mum the best care. Dr. Fong is more than just a nephrologist, he’s an angel in a white coat. My mum was under his care for a complicated health condition involving her kidneys, heart, and lungs. Throughout her hospital stay, Dr. Fong was not only thorough and professional, but also incredibly compassionate and responsive, even through WhatsApp voice notes when words failed us. He explained every step patiently, kept us constantly updated, and made sure we never felt alone in this difficult journey. Despite juggling many patients, he always responded to our questions with clarity and calm. His care extended beyond just treatment, he considered our emotional stress and supported our decision to transfer my mum back to Melaka. He even expedited reports when we needed them urgently. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Fong and his team for their compassionate and excellent care. I was admitted to Gleneagles through the emergency department due to a high fever and later diagnosed with leptospirosis, which had severely affected my kidneys.
