Dr Thanges treated my Mother-in-law for an ovarian cyst. His manner was calm and reassuring; whilst the consults were always informative and supportive. Questions were answered patiently, and he expertly tailored his responses according to whether the questions were from myself (a fellow surgeon) or my Mother-in-law. She underwent a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy; with Dr Thanges using the DaVinci robotic system. I was privileged to have been allowed into the OT to observe. His expert manipulation of the robotic system made me (almost) want to re-train as a robotic surgeon. Post-operatively, her recovery was remarkable. She was discharged after 3 nights; whereupon she was walking independently and did not need painkillers. Within 7 days she was walking around a mall!!! Having accompanied Mother-in-law throughout her medical journey, I am pleased that we had chosen Dr Thanges as her surgeon; and I can confidently attest to his skill as a surgeon and endorse his professionalism.

As a woman , losing a part of me meant a lot hence I procrastinated for many years thinking my condition ( heavy clotting periods, cramps , polyps ) will correct by itself somehow or I’ll reach menopause by then. Also I saw how my mum suffered through her recovery period when she had hysterectomy done 35 years ago. I was on iron tablets for many years trying to cope with my condition. Had 2 D&Cs , 1 Mirena insertion done and nothing works anymore. When I was having continuous staining even with medication I knew I had to do the one thing I fear the most … hysterectomy. The explanation from the doctors I was consulting didn’t put me to ease and in fact I still was trying to find ways not to go through with this. Lost as to not sure which doctor to see, I prayed and somehow God led my path to Dr Thangeswaran. The thought of hysterectomy , the conventional way having to take as long as 6 months for full recovery scares me. I can’t afford to have long recovery or down time as I don’t have a full time maid and my hubby travels a lot. Dr Thangeswaran took time explaining to us about my condition. He addressed all our concerns and questions ; silly or not he answers them all. He didn’t rush through during consultation, showed us slides how surgeries are conducted etc. This really put me to ease. I’ve never heard of Robotic Surgery for hysterectomy prior to this. Laparoscopic surgery yes, but not Robotic Surgery. Minimal loss of blood , 6 weeks recovery period , 8mm of 5 incisions sounds VERY ok to me. I finally did my surgery on 9th of July 2022. Eventhough this is a major surgery, I woke up with almost no pain just some muscle soreness. I only had to take paracetamol as the only painkiller for 4 days eventhough I was given 14 days dosage. Dr Thangeswaran gave me his handphone number prior to my surgery and checks on me very often. He told me to text him whenever I have any questions. I was actually bleeding out a week prior to surgery and when I texted him about it , he was quick to reply my text. While I was recuperating at home he took the trouble to text to ask if I’m doing well. It is indeed comforting to have a gynaecologist walking alongside me throughout my hysterectomy journey; something which I fear. I cannot imagine how I would go through this journey without Dr Thangeswaran. I thank the Lord for sending him back to Malaysia to be my gynaecologist. God bless you Dr, as you continue to bless others with your gifts.
