Mishandling of Patient by Staff Nurse It is with great dissapointment to see the standards of nursing care at UMSC has gone down the drains. To be honest, many of us go to UMSC because of the esteemed doctors. My family have tolerated enough and ample time was given to them for clarification but until today, it has gone on deaf ears. Hence, I am writing here for the public awareness and what happened should not ever be repeated to another patient. Correspondence did with Puan Zurainawaty Ainz who is the Director of Nursing (DON) whereby no follow up nor a reply from her when questioned. The unfortunate inicident happened to one of my family members who was warded at Orchid Ward located at KKWK. We have adviced numerous times that this patient is also having dementia. But to our despair, nurse Khairah and Suhaima, particularly Khairah ( who also is a team leader) was extremely arrogant, rough and rude to the patient. My niece in actual fact witnessed the inicident the day he was admitted. Nurses should be well trained and care for their patients. But in actual fact, they tied him up for their "screw ups" they did and blames on the patient. Mind you, this is not the first time he was warded but it was the 1st time at Orchid. A real "hell" ward. He was admitted on a catheter issue but instead the nurses mistreated him. Attendants namely Nasuha and Amani was equally useless and did not practice hygiene to the patient. When asked for assistance, one of this attendant practically avoided what was asked and raised her voice to my niece informing the attendant was also busy. When pressing for bed caller, the nurses will practically go to the main counter and switch off their sound. Also when you want to ask the nurse for assistance, they would actually cover their name tags! Instead of checking with the respective Doctor, the staff nurse who was on duty on 22/6/21 night shift called an MO, Mohd Muzakkir bin Zul Wizaratin who pricked the patient for an IV THREE TIMES which the last one he did was between the fingers!! Seriously???!!! Despite so much of drama happening, we asked for the Sister of the ward and this what amazes me. Sister Nabilah Zakaria whom she herself gave her full name "indirectly challenged" my niece and denied not knowing any of these incidents. But to our suprise she can convey message to Suhaima to inform my niece on some medication. Many of a times, my niece left messages to the Sister but gave us the ignorance treatment. DON, are you just providing lip service? Is UMSC really vetting thru their qualification? Who suffers at the end? Do you know we are all having sleepness nights, so much of worry and we cannot even do our daily chores and job? You cannot even imagine what we are going thru here now! A person who has dementia should be treated with dignity as with any normal human being. Nurses should understand about this sickness and the impairment associated with it helps us to be more empathetic in our communication. The doctors are far much better off. So much of patience and they show their commitment to their patients. UMSC should take prompt actions in emphasizing the importance of good nurses and their services and be very mindful of upholding these ethics of this profession at all times. UMSC cannot sail on the credentials of their good doctors only.
