Scoliosis surgery - posterior spinal instrumented fusion using pedicle screw system (T6-L3), date - 10 February 2018, and now my son has passed 3 weeks post surgery with amazing recovery process. Indeed the whole experience at UMSC of my son's (Abdullah Fahim, age 13) surgery was a very convincing and amazing journey. Kudos to the surgeons, Prof Kwan Mun Keong and Prof Chris Chan Yin Wei, the rest of the surgery team, Prof Shahnaz and other doctors, the nurses.... And not to forget Sis Chua and also Winnie whom have given us a top notch experience. Truly amazing!!! We just would like to emphasize here that the personalize attention given directly by Prof Chris and Prof Kwan was indeed the point that captured our heart. (Everyone may say UMSC may not have the best bed🙁, but they do have the best surgeons!!). Remarks from a family friend from the UK Jacqui and Geoff Thompson which all of us in Malaysia feel the same - that this is our first in medical history experience, "I’ve never seen any updates like that before whilst they are in surgery what an amazing initiative. I had a slipped disc sometime in October 2014 and had difficulty walking and experienced excruciating pain at the lower back. I saw Prof Chris Chan of UMSC and was operated in January 2015. The operation took 21/2 hours to fuse L4 and L5. During the operation my wife who was at the waiting room was kept updated on the operation and my well being through sms. I stayed at the UMSC ward for two days, and since then I am able to walk without having to look for a chair to rest, able to climb mountains and do trekking.
