Professor Dr. Thong Meow Keong is a pioneering clinical geneticist in Malaysia, recognized for establishing the nation's first Genetics clinic with genetic counseling services. As the first board-certified clinical geneticist in Malaysia, he has significantly advanced the subspecialty and led the Genetics & Metabolism Unit. His extensive research, including discovering the molecular basis of beta-thalassemia in Sabah's Kadazandusuns, has resulted in over 120 publications and 8 books. A Fulbright scholar and recipient of numerous accolades, including the American Society of Human Genetics Advocacy Award, he also holds key leadership roles as Dean of the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and President of the College of Paediatrics. His dedication to patients with rare genetic conditions is evident through his advisory roles with Malaysian rare disorder societies.
